Our grandparents, Corinne and Louis Stellman, had 8 daughters, 6 of whom lived to grow up and have kids of their own -- 14 of whom were daughters, and 10 were boys. By now there are also many great grandchildren -- too many for me to track. Grandpa died when he was 65 and our grandmother lived on to be 90-something, having survived mind intact, as far as I can tell, by smoking two packs of cigarettes and drinking about 8 cups coffee a day and eating only cheese danishes. Recently, Lee Terry, my older sister and the second oldest cousin, emailed all the cousins that she was in possession of a charm bracelet belonging to our grandmother containing small metal silhouette heads with the names and birth dates of nearly all of the grandchildren.
The question became what to do with it. There were, by my count, 10 pages worth of separate emails with various opinions, some conducted in all caps. The essential issue was whether to divide the bracelet up and distribute the individual charms or leave it intact -- and if left intact, then what? The first decision was to maintain the integrity of the bracelet. The next was to create this blog and to post pictures of it being worn by granddaughters and great granddaughters, along with any comments or stories they wanted to write. And any cousin -- male or female-- was welcome to add stories and pictures they felt might be funny, moving, or just interesting. Carol Peckham, fourth grandchild
